Alphaville’s Teaching Philosophies and Goals

Alphaville American School uses a modern approach to teaching English in Taiwan.
The school is transitioning away from forcing children to memorize vocabulary, imitating English sentence patterns, learning phonetic symbols, and studying from large grammar books.
Alphaville considers itself as an American school in Taiwan and it utilizes using English as the native tongue (first language) to teach. English is used to learn English and make English a communication tool to learn other subjects.
Students are exposed to and adapt to an all-English environment.
They take classes in arts and crafts, cooking, music, P.E., and even natural sciences like chemistry and biology.
Furthermore, all foreign teachers teach and interact with their students using only English allowing students to listen to and learn from native English speakers.
A natural development of all of this, that is seen at Alphaville but not found at other major English schools, is that students actually speak to each other in English! Immersed in the all-English environment, students learn to speak freely, confidently, naturally, and more fluently. They have a very high level of English speaking and listening comprehension.
Alphaville really wants to do away with outdated concepts and habits of just learning English from memorization. Our goal is to have our students learn English as if they were going to school in America!
